What is most important San Jose Brach activity to you?

San Jose Branch Information

The San Jose Branch was established in 1956 as a local branch of the San Francisco Section. ASCE members who reside or work in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Benito, or Monterey Counties are automatically established as members of the Branch.

Branch activities kick-off in October at the beginning of each financial year that include monthly lunch meetings in the downtown San Jose area, annual Coastal meeting in Santa Cruz for our members in Santa Cruz and Monterey area, annual Scholarship Essay Contest, and the Officer Induction Ceremony.  Recent Branch efforts have led to the revival of Monterey Branch Organizaing Committee aimed at establishing a new Branch serving the civil engineering community in Monterey Bay area.

ASCE members and non-members are welcome to attend any event, which usually features local civil engineering topics or projects. Recent presentations consisted of Highway 101 Improvements, self-anchored suspension SF Bay Bridge and BART extension projects.

For several years, the Branch has been successful in organizing annual Student Essay Contest with the support of local civil engineering companies and professionals.  Students from San Jose State University (SJSU), Santa Clara University (SCU) and Stanford University have enthusiastically participated in this contest every year for a total of  over $10k in this awards.  For more information about the contest or donation, please contact Bill Zehrbach at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

This year we are pleased to participate with Deep Foundation Institute for Force-Pulse Seminar to be held on January 17, 2012 in Oakley, CA.  The seminar would consist of presentations on new rapid load testing method as an alternative to conventional pile load testing.  More details about the seminar and registration information can be found at DFI website.

Please feel free to contact any of the Branch Board members for information on ASCE and our local Branch.
