Year 2009-10 Recap San Jose Branch has had a great year in serving its members throughout the year. The monthly lunch meetings and presentations were well received and included diverse topics ranging from topics on Sustainable Resource Management to Asphalt Rubber-Chip & Cape Seals to San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrades. The annual students essay competition saw 48 students from San Jose State, Santa Clara and Stanford Universities submitting their essays to win over $9,000 total in prizes. The award money was generously donated by local firms and individuals. The Science Fair Committee held its annual fair engaging the high school students and awarding $500 total in prizes for science models. Joint meetings were also held with several organizations including ASCE YMF, ITE, SBOTA, APWA, and EWB. Monterey Bay Sub-Branch Committee formed last year under the auspices of San Jose Branch was very successful in organizing several dinner meetings and presentations aimed primarily at engaging Branch members living in Monterey Bay area. A YMF committee was also formed this year with the aim of galvanizing the South Bay young professionals in ASCE activities and establishing a Branch YMF. The committee kicked off its series of events by organizing ice skating event at Sharks Ice followed by bay plantation and 'happy hour' events. The Branch recognizes the invaluable contribution of its various committees towards its success, including Scholarship Committee, Chair - Bill Zehrbach; Stanford Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Chuck Anderson; SJSU Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Greg Thiebaut and Sarah Christensen; SCU Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Chris Pitt and Bryant Troung; Science Fair Committee, Chair - Aida Fairman; Monterey Bay Sub-Branch Committee, Chairs - Brian Bauldry, Dave Heinrichsen, Dustin Jolley and Frances Dacanay; and YMF Committee, Chairs - Shawna Von Stockhausen and Sarah Merrill Nominees for 2010-2011 It’s time to usher in a new slate of officers for the year 2010-11 beginning this October to continue the long tradition of serving the San Jose Branch members. The list of nominees include Past President / Section Director – Catherine Ellis; President - Raymond Wong; Vice President – Abhishek Jain; Secretary – Janet Kan; Treasurer – Karl Neuman; and Assistant Treasurer – TBD. Induction Ceremony Program The Branch is holding its Annual Meeting and Officer Induction Ceremony on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at J. Lohr Winery in San Jose. As in past years at J Lohr, this event will include professional catering and a pre-dinner wine tasting. We hope you can join us to enjoy the company of colleagues and friends while reviewing the accomplishments of the Branch this past year and ushering in our new slate of officers for 2010/11.
