Annual Dinner Banquet & Officer Induction Ceremony

                                       Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Year 2009-10 Recap

San Jose Branch has had a great year in serving its members throughout the year.  The monthly lunch meetings and presentations were well received and included diverse topics ranging from topics on Sustainable Resource Management to Asphalt Rubber-Chip & Cape Seals to San Pablo Dam Seismic Upgrades.

The annual students essay competition saw 48 students from San Jose State, Santa Clara and Stanford Universities submitting their essays to win over $9,000 total in prizes.  The award money was generously donated by local firms and individuals.

The Science Fair Committee held its annual fair engaging the high school students and awarding $500 total in prizes for science models.

Joint meetings were also held with several organizations including ASCE YMF, ITE, SBOTA, APWA, and EWB.

Monterey Bay Sub-Branch Committee formed last year under the auspices of San Jose Branch was very successful in organizing several dinner meetings and presentations aimed primarily at engaging Branch members living in Monterey Bay area.

A YMF committee was also formed this year with the aim of galvanizing the South Bay young professionals  in ASCE activities and establishing a Branch YMF.  The committee kicked off its series of events by organizing ice skating event at Sharks  Ice followed by bay plantation and 'happy hour' events.

The Branch recognizes the invaluable contribution of its various committees towards its success, including

Scholarship Committee, Chair - Bill Zehrbach;

Stanford Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Chuck Anderson;

SJSU Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Greg Thiebaut and Sarah Christensen;

SCU Practitioner Advisor Committee, Chair - Chris Pitt and Bryant Troung;
